  Ellyn Altman, Ph.D. is a licensed New York State Psychologist who received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University, her Postdoctoral Diploma in Advanced Techniques of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis from Adelphi University, and her Certificate in the Practice of Group Psychotherapy from the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Association. Dr. Altman has a special interest in working with disabled people of all ages and is the author of Talk With Me, which addresses the hearing impaired and their families. She also specializes in working with adolescents and with children in play and activities therapy. When appropriate she employs filial therapy which simultaneously considers the individual and interpersonal problems experienced by children and their parents.

During decades of private practice Dr. Altman has developed expertise in the effective use of brief and emergency psychotherapy; the integration of various therapies tailored to the presented problem(s) including cognitive, behavioral, and psychodynamic approaches; and psychoanalysis for people seeking an in-depth investigation of their concerns. Problems Dr. Altman has treated cover the life span from early childhood through senior years and include, for example, problems of anxiety, child management, depression, interpersonal relationships, marital distress, performance, social adjustment, stress related health issues, and life's transitions. Dr. Altman has a psychotherapy group and offers group therapy when appropriate.

Dr. Altman is a member of the Faculty of the Derner Postgraduate Institute for Advanced Techniques of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of Adelphi University. She is a Diplomate of The American Board of Professional Disability Consultants; is listed in The National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology; and holds Membership in The Lacanian Compass and Lacan Toronto. Dr. Altman is a member of the American Psychological Association and the New York State Psychological Association; and is a past President of the Clinical Division of the New York State Psychological Association. She is a founding member of Northeast Psychological Associates and served as its President for seven years.
